Sooner or later trash is gonna getcha

The quarterly trash fee will revert to $55.25 for the fourth quarter, due to Council's failure to address this issue properly in June (or earlier).

That will result in a shortfall of about $90K from what the Borough needed to collect.

Where's the cash going to come from?

What will the Council need to do in January to fix the problem?

Call your Council Member and ask him or her to explain it to you. Contact information for the Council Members can be found at the Borough's unofficial site.

Chef B, you seem to be making an assumption that this $90K or thereabouts is something which is legit. You have heard all about "allocations" and charging over $100K for processing payments on trash, close to or over $300K for water and sewer services plus trash. I'd look to do some cleaning up there.
Once the threesome comes out of their closeted budget sessions, I would call for a serious look at costs surrounding processing of municipal bills.

Dear Anon at 10:23 PM:

I'm just working with the figures in the approved 2007 budget.

It is perfectly OK to allocate overhead to all direct service departments and proprietary function (trash, water, sewer). This is especially so when you need to 'price' the latter services.

The administration's explanation about these allocations is what is unclear.

There are individuals in Phoenixville who do not use the Borough's trash collection service.

I don't want to see any transfers of "general fund" taxpayer monies to cover this shortfall, as those who are consumers of the service should bear the cost.
