Just a Minute?

The official Phoenixville web site posts Council minutes, but for some reason the latest is for October 2006.

See for yourself at the Borough's Minutes Page.

Since Council has met since then and since the minutes already exist in electronic form, would it be that hard to post them? Or are there other reasons?

Message from the Web Master of www.phoenixville.org.

Please read my "Special Notice" that I had posted on the web site. I think it will explain alot about lack of info on the site. Also be advised that I have been told by a borough council person that the web site IS NOT an official site for the borough.

That makes sense.
Ordinances are not laws.
DiGirolomo says if you want to know about where those trucks will be parked for hours (not the ones with the men in yellow-green vests sitting in them during their scheduled work hours) he'll post that on "the borought's web site" - whic.h does not exist!

In response to Web Master Paul of phoenixville.org:

Almost every page of phoenixville.org bears the seal of the Borough at the top of the page. Almost every page is copyrighted by the Borough.

And then we have your "Special Notice," in which you disclaim responsibility for what's on the site. Haven't seen anything like this since the "Joe Izuzu" ads went off the air.

Under these circumstances, I suggest that your use of the Borough seal is entirely inappropriate and that you ought to remove it from the site. By the way, can you tell us who authorized you to use the Borough seal in the first place?

I suggest that phoenixville.org needs at least a conspicuous disclaimer on each page that it is not an official Borough site and that the Borough is not responsible for its content.

The reason why the Borough Seal is on every page becasue borough officials wanted the public to kind of know that the information posted on the web site was done with the approval of the borough.
The use of the seal was given by the council, brorough manager and fiance director that were around in 1997. Back then when we met to talk about the forming of the web site those people felt with the borough seal being used it would validate the web site, they also placed the word 'Official" on the web page. It was in 1997 with input from the people mentioned above and the school district that the rules and guidelines were established.
It was not until 5 years ago when that word was taken off. As for the word "Offical" being taken off I was told becasue the web page was not hosted on a computer which the borough owned. Then if someone complained that information was lacking they could use the excuse well it's not an "Official" web site.
In some ways the borough is responsible for the content, as if you read my Special Notice, I can not post anything to the site without an ok from a borough official. Even if I read something in "The Phonix" I still can not post it to the web site until I get that ok.
When a web site for the borough was first suggested it took several months to work out the details becasue of the views that all the different people had. Since then council has changed and all of the people in charge at borough hall has changed.
If anybody would like to know more please feel free to e-mail me at the address listed on the web site.

ACtually, I think the more interesting question is:

"Why hasn't Ken Buckwalter updated his website since December 2006?"

Ken used to be *the* source for offical Borough information -- Council members receive a CD several days before Council and Committee meetings containing all the official documentation and Ken used to be great about posting all this information onto his website. I found his site extremely helpful -- why has he discontinued this practice?

Webmaster Paul. I wouldn't take any questions or criticisms personally. Thanks for doing what you do within the constraints that are imposed on you. There is so little sharing of information, there is such a lack of transparency. Government officials can apparently force the newspapers to revoke published information.
Mr. Breuer, I would tred lightly here, as a likely outcome is the award of another contract or justification of another borough employee. However, webmaster paul would know it should not take much for him to post information if it was actually released to him to do so.
That any councilman makes any effort to share information is laudable. I think for around $200 a month a council person would be able to share and gather information from their constituents using the web. I think that these google weblogs are free, nes pas?

To Anoy 10:01 PM poster. I do not let it bother me when anybody critizie my work. I might not agree with what a person says but I will defend their right to say whatever they want. Becasue I know for the past ten years if I didn't do it who would have done it. (Remember my labor and the cost of the hosting is done WITHOUT ANY COST to the borough). I am a volunteer and I feel that it is my civic duty. Becasue of medical situation I can not serve the public by being on council but I can serve the public by doing the web site.
To the other person that had e-mailed me yesterday, yes I know that a certain council person has laid the blame of the lack of information on the web site on me. I get a chuckle becasue if I HAD recieved the info it would have been posted. And in the case of the e-mail that I recieved this council person NEVER passed the information on to me, but yet promise this person 4 times that a certain item would have been posted.
Someone asked why I posted the Special Notice and why I responded on here. For I am hoping that they public can show the people in charge what information they would like to see on the web and that becasue of it that information will be released to me to post. I have my owe feelings on what I would like to see posted.
Personally I feel that the web site is under used, there can be so much information made avaiable to the public to read.
Please, let the people in charge know what you want posted, maybe if you do it will then get released to me to post.
Personally there has been items that I felt should have been posted but I never got the OK to post them. (Rememebr the rule is I can not post something unless I am given the OK)
This whole talk started about the lack of 'Meeting Minutes" on the web. It would be nice to have "Meeting Minutes" but also the "Agenda" amd not limit to coucil meeting but to even to the sub-comittee meetings.

Dear Richard do you think that in the future you might come back on to council. I am not a Republician but I have respected what you had tried to do.

Most times, the "agenda" is not even finalized until the evening of the meetings. Requests to send them for publishing, as well as requests for various committee membership are not updated even after NUMEROUS requests to supply them.
